This flood protection scheme for the Hutt Valley was undertaken as a joint venture project between Hutt City Council and Wellington Regional Council. The project budget for this work was $36M.

As a director of the appointed project management group, Steve Peck was personally nominated by the clients for the overall implementation and execution of this major upgrade of the Ewen Floodway. This joint scheme by the Wellington Regional Council and Hutt City Council required extensive property purchases, construction of a new 4-lane bridge, and realigning the river channels and upgrading the stop banks. This 6-year project was brought in under budget and met all challenging Council criteria.
